First 8 Memphis Welcomes Summer Intern
We’re thrilled to welcome our very first intern, Zoe Gurney, who will serve with First 8 Memphis for the summer. Coming off her freshman year at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, Zoe plans to major in economics with a concentration in public health, as well as minor in Chinese studies and mathematics—with the eventual goal of pursuing a career in health economics and biostatistics. In addition to her summer work with First 8 Memphis, Zoe is such a go-getter that she’ll simultaneously serve as a paid intern for one of our valued partners, The Urban Child Institute (UCI). We’re grateful to UCI for working out this special arrangement.
During her internship with First 8 Memphis, Zoe will gain valuable hands-on experience through a wide variety of programmatic and administrative tasks. Projects will include organizational strategy, communications, and event management—all geared toward our objective of achieving a 90% kindergarten-ready rate for pre-K children and a 90% reading-level rate for 3rd graders by 2025.
First 8 Memphis also offers internships for the fall and spring semesters. Interested applicants must be a current student or recent graduate, and have a passion for helping underserved communities in Memphis and Shelby County. To learn more and apply, click here.
