As of fall 2025, all F8M classrooms offer FREE Pre-K to ALL eligible 4-year old students, regardless of the family’s income!
First 8 Memphis (F8M) partners with over 20 Pre-K Operators in Memphis and Shelby County!
Our Operators coordinate and provide early childhood education to support young children’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development to ensure Kindergarten readiness.
Students and families receive wraparound services to support students’ healthy growth and development through screenings, referrals, and ongoing engagement to meet the individualized needs of families.

Enrollment Checklist:
✅ Many Pre-K operators have an online application process, and some require an in-person application and/or screening. Visit the Pre-K operator's website or call to learn more.
✅ Prepare your documents in advance, but note that some required documents may vary for each Pre-K operator. Common requirements include:
Child’s Birth Certificate
Child’s Social Security Card
Parent or Guardian ID
Proof of Residence
Proof of Income
Proof of Physical and Immunization Record
📌 Enrollment Priorities for 2025-26
When programs have more applicants than available seats, the following priorities will help determine placement:
Children who turn 4 years old on or before August 15, 2025
Children who turn 4 years old between August 16 and December 31, 2025
Family’s household income
Please note: Some programs may also consider additional factors—like parental employment, or special family circumstances—when finalizing enrollment. If you have questions about your child’s eligibility or placement, reach out to individual Operators.
Tips to Support Healthy Attendance
Set a regular bedtime & morning routine.
Talk to your child about the importance of attending school and get them excited about attending.
If assistance is needed, visit your child’s school Family Engagement Personnel to ask about resources!
If your child is absent, please provide your child's teacher a written excuse/note within 3 days of their return to school.
Pre-K for All is a high-quality program dedicated to preparing ALL Memphis and Shelby County children for lifelong success!
Pre-K for All is the first program in Memphis and Shelby County to provide FREE Pre-K for ALL 3 and 4-year-olds in Shelby County, regardless of income. Thus allowing parents/guardians to work or go to school knowing their children are in a high-quality program.

Operate a F8M Pre-K Classroom
First 8 Memphis supports over 1,900 students and families across 97 high-quality Pre-K classrooms through annual funding provided by the City of Memphis and Shelby County Governments.
F8M will not open a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the 2026–2027 school year. This site will be updated in Fall 2026 with more information on the RFP process and timeline for the 2027-2028 school year.
Pre-K providers interested in operating a F8M Pre-K classroom should join the Pre-K Work Group to connect with the F8M team and current partners, align on high-quality Pre-K programming, and engage in advocacy for expanded Pre-K services.
