Jaron K. Carson

Jaron Carson began his career in education with legacy Memphis City Schools in 2004. He was a classroom teacher in legacy Memphis City Schools System for six years, where he taught kindergarten, third, fourth, and fifth grade. After six years of successful teaching, he was awarded the opportunity to become a resident principal with New Leaders for New Schools at Carnes Elementary. Later that year, Mr. Carson was select as the principal of Newberry Elementary. He served as the principal of Newberry Elementary for four years. Under his leadership at Newberry, the school was a three-time Reward School and a TVAAS Level 5 School for four years in a row. 

In 2015, Mr. Carson transitioned to Lucie E. Campbell Elementary School which was under the umbrella of the Izone Schools. During his tenure at Lucie E. Campbell, the school saw tremendous growth. The school was recognized as a 2018 Priority Improving School. During that same year, Lucie E. Campbell became a Reward School for growth, achieved a TVAAS Level 5, and moved out the bottom 10% for first time since 2011. In 2019, Mr. Carson was offered the opportunity to become an Instructional Leadership Director. As Instructional Leadership Director, he supervised 15 schools within the Continuous Improvement Zone. In the summer of 2021, Mr. Carson was select as the Chief Academic Officer for Shelby County School. 

Working with teachers, students, and families to ensure all students reach their full potential and are College and Career Ready will be his primary focus.  His K-12 experience and training has prepared him well for this challenge.  It has given him a clear perspective of what students need to be successful for their future. Mr. Carson believes that all children can learn, however as educators we must identify where children operate comfortably to build their capacity and then push them to new heights.

Mr. Carson’s educational credentials include a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from LeMoyne -Owen College. He also received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in School Administration and Leadership from Christian Brothers University.

He is married to his wife Shaleah of 14 years, and has two girls, Kylie and Kamia.
